A Little About Maryam…
— I am a final year medical student with passions in acquiring knowledge from the diverse areas of life as a whole.
My passion for healthcare was ignited at a young age of 8 when I witnessed the challenges my Aunt faced while battling Sickle cell disease. Her struggle deeply impacted me, and I became determined to make a difference. It was then that I realized my calling to become a doctor. I was driven by the belief that there had to be a solution, a simple cure, to alleviate her suffering. However, as I embarked on my journey, I soon realized that the complexity of diseases surpassed my initial understanding. Sadly, my Aunt passed away before I could find the elusive “cure” that I had hoped for. Allah Yarhamuha. Her absence left a void, but it also fueled my curiosity and passion for understanding the intricacies of disease and health.
Fast forward to the global pandemic, a time that further cemented my commitment to medicine. My beloved uncle was diagnosed with Colorectal cancer, adding yet another chronic condition to our family’s story. By this point, I had progressed halfway through medical school, gaining a deeper appreciation for the complexities of illnesses. I began to comprehend that finding a cure was not always a straightforward path, as I had naively believed as a young girl. Yet, I was determined to offer support and make a difference in my uncle’s life, even though I had not yet completed my medical training. Motivated by this desire, I pursued certification as a health coach, seeking to provide guidance and assistance to my uncle during his challenging journey. Unfortunately, despite his remarkable courage and unwavering trust in Allah, my uncle eventually succumbed to complications. His strength and faith continue to inspire me to this day. May Allah bless him with Jannatul Firdaus, Ameen.
Now, as a final-year medical student, my passion for learning and my dedication to serving the Ummah burn brighter than ever. I am particularly drawn to understanding chronic conditions and how individuals navigate their lives while living with these challenges. I strive to make a meaningful impact by leveraging my knowledge and skills to support those dealing with long-term health issues.
Through my personal experiences and my ongoing medical education, I am committed to making a difference in the lives of others. I aspire to contribute to the well-being of my community and address the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals living with chronic conditions. It is part of my mission in life to provide compassionate care, support, and guidance to help others navigate their health journeys with strength and resilience.
